Chronology of Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Greece were established on April 20, 1992.
The main fields of cooperation
Cooperation between Georgia and Greece is implemented successfully on both bilateral, as well as within the international organizations, in multilateral formats. The Republic of Greece supports Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspiration.
In addition, positive dynamics of cooperation exist within the legislative bodies of Georgia and Greece.
Cooperation in the field of culture is topical. There are frequent joint cultural events, in which Georgian diaspora organizations are actively involved. The project "Expedition of the Argonauts" shall be noted, which was initiated in 2008. In 2009 the ship similar to the ship of the Argonauts arrived in Batumi from the Volos city of Greece. It is worthwhile, that Georgian diaspora at the territory of the Republic of Greece is the third-largest one in the world.
Cooperation between the two countries in the field of education is essential. Scholarships for Georgian students are annually allocated by the Government of the Republic of Greece. In 2016 the pilot program for teaching the Georgian language at N50 public school of Athens was launched. The financial and logistical aspects of the program was provided by Georgian side. The bilateral agreements are signed between Georgia and the Republic of Greece, regulating nearly all sphere of bilateral relations, including economy, tourism, health care, science, education, culture.
