   On June 3rd, the Embassy of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic held a reception dedicated to the Anniversary of Georgia’s Independence Day at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens.
 

   The Ambassador of Georgia to the Hellenic Republic, Levan Beridze, addressed those present and wished all Georgians and friends of Georgia happy Independence Day. In his speech, Ambassador focused on achievements of the country in various fields and underlined significant progress of Georgia during the last decade. Ambassador Beridze emphasized continuous economic growth and the tourism potential of the country, reiterated the importance of bilateral relations between Georgia and Greece and pointed out the opportunities for further strengthening ties between the two countries. Georgian Ambassador also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the EU integration and its continuous efforts of strengthening partnerships between Georgia and the EU.
 

   Member of the Hellenic Parliament and the Head of the Greece-Georgia Friendship Group, the Honorable Asimina Skondra, addressed the audience as well, and congratulated Georgia on this special occasion. She highlighted the significance of the Independence Day, as well as the importance of the long lasting friendship between the two countries. In her speech Ms. Skondra touched upon the role of the Georgian diaspora in Greece and its importance in fostering stronger ties between the two countries and its people.
 

   The event was attended by the representatives of the goverment of Greece, members of the diplomatic corps, Georgian diaspora and the members of the private and public sectors. Renowned Georgian music ensemble, ‘Shvidkaca’, performed at the festive evening and sang Georgian and Greek national anthems, as well as several most popular Georgian songs for the guests.
